Homero Martinez, MD, PhD

Homero Martinez is a Senior Technical Advisor, NTEAM, at Nutrition International.

Homero joined Nutrition International in 2016 as Senior Advisor to the Micronutrient Forum (MNF). In that role, Homero was responsible for steering the activities of the MNF to follow its strategic plan and address key barriers to achieve micronutrient adequacy for individuals and populations.

Homero has ample experience in public health nutrition, specifically addressing different forms of malnutrition in vulnerable populations, including young children in developing countries.

His research addresses several micronutrient deficiencies, including iodine, iron, vitamin A, and zinc; as well as interventions to address the overweight and obesity epidemic; nutritional and hydration management of children with acute diarrhea; home-care of acute respiratory infections; nutritional needs for people living with HIV/AIDS; training of primary health care workers; and assessment of fluid intake in different populations.

Homero is fluent in English and Spanish. He has held teaching appointments in different institutions, mentoring various graduate students. Homero has also occupied senior level administrative positions related to research. Homero is a clinical pediatrician and has a PhD in International Nutrition, with minors in Medical Anthropology and Clinical Epidemiology.
